A Few Words about the Technology Used to Create this Item
These are created with a unique printing technology called Dye-Sublimation or Dye-Sub Printing. The desired, mirror image is printed onto a special dye-sub transfer paper using an Epson C-88 inkjet printer. This particular printer is used because of its advanced, printhead technology. The ink, as in all normal printing, turns from a liquid to a solid printed word or image. The mirror image is then very precisely taped to the polymer coated metal substrate with heat resistant tape. It is then placed on a McKnight Heat Press and pressed with moderate pressure at 390 degrees F. for 50 seconds. During the heating process the solid ink does not melt but rather sublimates into a gas. There is then a chemical reaction between the dye-sub ink turned gas and the polymer coating. The result is a very clear, sharp image left on the metal substrate. The dye-sub ink is very expensive...currently $300.00 for 4 ink cartridges and is produced by Sawgrass Technologies.
